5 Hidden gems: Time to explore our local treasures.

Whether you’re joining us for the first time or we’re already your favourite getaway, there’s plenty waiting to be discovered just steps from our door. From scenic walks and inspiring art to cosy cafés and local drinks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

1. Lindley Village

Stroll down the charming high street, home to independent shops, cosy cafés, and local craft beer and wine. Admire the striking Art Nouveau Clock Tower, then wander past the peaceful duck pond, where you will find friendly local fishermen. A little further on, Greenhead Park awaits with tennis courts, play area, a classic bandstand, and even a friendly 5k run every Sunday morning.

2. Canal Walk Slaithwaite to Marsden

A beautifully maintained towpath along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. At the Slaithwaite end, you can enjoy The Handmade Bakery or Zapato beer tasting. In Marsden, Peel Street Social offers a cozy riverside café with views and friendly service. While Prendi Cucina has a wonderful selection of handmade Italian favourites both sweet & savoury! Their Pistachio cannoli are a must-try!

3. Holmfirth & Digley Reservoir Walks

Just southwest of Holmfirth, Digley Reservoir offers both a short scenic loop (1.5 mi) and a longer 5 mi route looping through the woods and connecting to Bilberry Reservoir. The landscape inspired Last of the Summer Wine and feels quintessential Yorkshire. Nearby Holmfirth itself is charmingly rural, with local cafés, shops, and dramatised filming locations from the beloved series.

4. The Piece Hall, Halifax

A short twenty-minute drive away, The Piece Hall is a Georgian masterpiece from 1779 featuring the most magnificent architecture and courtyard. It features independent shops (art, vintage fashion, crystals, vinyl, gifts), cafés, bars, and regular live music events attracting big names from Sir Tom Jones to Sting, Jess Glynne, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, The Lumineers, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, and Richard Ashcroft.

5. Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield

For art lovers, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield are two inspiring locations to explore. Set in 500 acres of rolling countryside, Yorkshire Sculpture Park features large-scale works by renowned artists like Henry Moore and Damien Hirst, offering a unique experience where art and nature meet. Just a short drive away, The Hepworth Wakefield is a striking modern gallery on the river, home to an impressive collection of works by Barbara Hepworth and other leading contemporary artists.
